Imagine weighing so little that you can sit on a tendril and not make it sag under your weight! This little guy would feed at a nearby hummingbird feeder and then retreat to his tiny tendril perch. This photograph was taken through the intervening porch posts. I discovered that the red dot on his throat mark him as a juvenile male ruby throated hummingbird. These young males have not had the full red color grow in on their throat plumage. This profile shot shows off his long beak.
